Tyranny of Dragons
Instead of calculating and tracking experience points (XP) characters level up upon completion of most (though not all) episodes in an adventure. An episode is a series of missions or sessions, each of which has multiple encounters. Normally an episode can take between 3 and 5 game sessions (I hope).
Since there have always been optional side quests or other opportunities to gain bonus XP the concept of Non-Monetary Rewards has been updated. Instead of gaining bonus XP for their side accomplishments, or exceptional success characters are rewarded directly with a Character Feature or Story Feature as appropriate. An example of this is rescuing survivors during the Greenest in Flames Episode.
Characters who develop new ways of accomplishing goals in a dramatic and character appropriate way may also receive tailored Character Features. An example of this is the Dragon Kick Action.
