Tyranny of Dragons
One of the chiefest non-wealth rewards from the plethora of game systems out there is experience points (XP), and that is fine. Still we are not using XP, and honestly as a reward it can be pretty dull. Other games such as Peandragon used a system of loyalty and reputation which offered some other point related non-monetary rewards. We are going to build on that but a bit more simplistically to start off. We may fall back to a bonus XP system or even one of the Loyalty, Reputation or Glory systems from other games.
One of the things we are going to try is to just hand out the reward when characters perform a side quest or secondary objective admirably. In such a circumstance they will recieve a set of options wherein they can choose any one of the options they have scored high enough to receive.
Greenest in Flames has an example of what this will look like that is based upon the number of villagers the characters rescue.
